133rd St. (Off of Liberty Avenue) between 105th and 107th Avenues
Richmond Hill, Queens
Come join the fun! Bollywood music, Guyanese dances, delicacies from the Indo-Caribbean, delectable desi fare, community services and YOU come together at Sakhi’s first-ever mela (fair) in Richmond Hill, Queens! If there is one thing you want to do this summer, it is be here! Check back regularly for up-to-date information about the line-up of performers, vendors, and community-based organizations.
Directions
Please use www.hopstop.com for exact directions from your point of origin to 133rd Street and Liberty Avenue.
From Manhattan or Brooklyn - Take the A train to Lefferts Blvd (last stop). When you exit, you will be on Liberty Avenue and 125th Street. Walk or take the Q112 bus down Liberty Avenue to 133rd Street. Turn right off Liberty Ave and you’ll be there!
From Queens – Take the E train to Sutphin Blvd. Exit at Sutphin Blvd and Archer Avenue. Take the Q9 Bus from Archer Ave station heading to South Jamaica. Get off at Van Wyck Expressway. Go west on Liberty Ave towards I-678. You’ll be there!
In case of rain:
The mela will go on as planned on Saturday, September 16 if there are light showers, intermittent rainfall, drizzle and/or overcast skies.
The mela will be held on Sunday, the 17th ONLY IF there is heavy downpour. If you are not sure on the morning of Saturday, September 16th, please call 212.714.9153 x 100 for a recorded message about the mela.
What is the Mela? The mela is a feel-good block party targeted at raising awareness for vital social services in Richmond Hill’s underserved South Asian community. The Mela will feature a variety of vendors including great South Asian and Indo-Caribbean restaurants, cultural clothing and jewelry shops, and henna design artists—to name a few. There will also be a cultural show taking place throughout the day, fun games, and a live DJ!
