Sakhi Executive Director Purvi Shah will be speaking about language barriers in the court system. She will be joined by Jennifer Levy of South Brooklyn Legal Services, Holly Maguigan of NYU Law School, and Sandra Park of the ACLU's Women's Rights Project. April 26, 20082008 Indo-Caribbean Women's Summit Second Annual Summit at Richmond Hill Library April 26, 2008, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. . 118-14 Hillside Avenue, Richmond Hill, NY 11418 As part of our Communities Taking Charge campaign, Sakhi is co-sponsoring a day of community-building and intergenerational dialogue among Indo-Caribbean women in Richmond Hill, Queens. The day will be filled with though-provoking poetry, visual arts and interactive workshops. Through these tools, we will learn about Domestic Violence, explore our identities and discuss how we can create positive change. Join us as we share our stories and celebrate sisterhood! Please note this event will be women-only. May 6, 2008New York City Bar Task Force Women in the Courts State of New York Court Interpeters: Three Years Later May 6, 2008, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. . 42 West 44th Street, Manhattan, NY This important event - free and open to the public - concerns language access to the court system and the role played by court interpreters. Sakhi Executive Director Purvi Shah will present key findings from our recently completed survey of more than 140 court interpreters from across the country. Also presenting will be representatives from the Office of Court Administration, Legal Services for New York City, and Sanctuary for Families.
