Long-Term Planning
Are you interested in making Sakhi a part of your long-term planning? There are several easy ways to incorporate Sakhi into your long-term planning and support our work in building health communities for decades to come.
Bequests
You can make a bequest to Sakhi as you prepare your will – the document through which you make gifts to your family, friends, and any charitable organizations you wish to support. When making a bequest, you can designate a specific amount, allocate a percentage of your residuary estate, or specify assets.
Any bequest to Sakhi is deeply appreciated – but the most useful bequest is one that is unrestricted, so that it can evolve and be utilized to best serve the constantly changing issues and needs of survivors of violence through the organization. Making a bequest to Sakhi in your will could enable you to give a more significant gift than possible during your lifetime. You may also gain peace of mind knowing that you are supporting the issues you are so deeply invested in for years to come.
To make a bequest to Sakhi, prepare a new will or add a codicil to your existing will. Just be sure to have your will be prepared by or reviewed by your attorney to ensure your specific desires are carried out appropriately.
If you are interested in making an unrestricted bequest, below is suggested language to help you articulate your wishes:
“I give and bequeath to Sakhi for South Asian Women, a New York City 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization (the sum of ________ dollars), (all or ____% of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate) for its general purposes.”
If you do choose to make a bequest, please let Sakhi staff know so that we may include you as a Sakhi Trailblazer, and with your permission, include your name in future Sakhi Trailblazer listings. If you have any questions, please contact Stephanie Arcella, at stephanie.arcella@sakhi.org.
Retirement Plans & Life Insurance Policies
By naming Sakhi for South Asian Women as the beneficiary of your retirement plan or life insurance policy, you designate a significant gift to a cause you feel strongly about, with little financial commitment now.
You may also be eligible for additional tax benefits. We recommend that you consult your tax advisor for more information.
